As we step into 2025, I want to take a moment to thank you for being part of our Hawaiʻi Health & Harm Reduction Center ʻohana. Your support has been instrumental in advancing our mission—reducing harm, promoting health, creating wellness, fighting stigma, and ensuring that our most vulnerable communities receive the care services and advocacy they deserve.
A Vision for 2025: Advocacy & Legislative Priorities
The new year brings new challenges, but also new opportunities to create meaningful change. Our legislative priorities this year focus on policies that will strengthen access to healthcare, harm reduction services, and housing for those who need it most. Governor Green has proposed additional funding for viral hepatitis, which will kickstart our state’s elimination strategy. We remain committed to advocating for increased funding for HIV services, improving access to overdose prevention tools, and supporting comprehensive healthcare for our transgender and LGBQIA+ communities. With your continued support, we will amplify the voices of those most impacted by these issues and work toward a healthier, more equitable Hawaiʻi.
Supporting Those Living With Chronic Diseases
Life Foundation founder Dr. David McEwan’s unwavering commitment to people living with HIV remains a cornerstone of HHHRC’s work. As we move forward, we are dedicated to expanding the compassionate, client-centered care that he championed. Our case management, medical services, and peer support programs will continue to ensure that individuals living with HIV receive the holistic care they need to thrive. By carrying his vision forward, we reaffirm our promise to never leave anyone behind.
Hoʻokahe Leo Kauhale: Supporting Independent Living
Stable housing is foundational to a person’s health, and we are proud to continue our work with Hoʻokahe Leo Kauhale Phase 2 to support individuals transitioning into independent living. Providing wraparound services, from healthcare coordination to job readiness programs, ensures that our clients have a place to live and the tools to build self-sufficient and fulfilling lives. Housing is healthcare, and we are committed to scaling our impact in this critical area.
Strengthening Sustainability: A Call for Support
With our programs growing and the need for services expanding, we are focusing on sustainability to ensure that HHHRC remains a beacon of support for years to come. Fundraising efforts in 2025 will help us expand lifesaving programs, continue vital advocacy work, and invest in new initiatives that meet the evolving needs of our community. Your generosity fuels our mission, and every contribution—whether through donations, volunteerism, or advocacy—makes a difference.
As we confront emerging uncertainty and challenges this year, we must remain vigilant in our fight for health equity and human dignity. Let’s stand together, love one another, and continue our unwavering commitment to a healthier, more resilient HawaiÊ»i.Â
With Gratitude and Compassion,
Heather Lusk, LCSW, MSW
