On July 1, HHHRC marked its 6th anniversary as a merged organization. We continue the work of Life Foundation and The CHOW Project: providing medical case management services for people living with HIV on Oʻahu and syringe exchange services on Oʻahu, Kauaʻi, Maui, and Hawaiʻi Island.
In alignment with our mission to reduce harm, promote health, create wellness, and fight stigma, we also offer homelessness services in urban Honolulu, Upper Windward Coast, and North Shore. We are also administering the kauhale near Middle Street. Our street medicine team continues to provide services in its mobile medical unit. Our CARF-accredited clinic in our Kakaʻako office offers behavioral health services, including outpatient treatment for opioid use disorder and psychiatric care.
Kuaʻana Project, HHHRC’s Transgender Services Program, provides needed direct support to Oʻahu’s trans community and raises awareness about trans issues, including access to care services. HHHRC’s smoking cessation program, Hawaiʻi’s Last Drag, recently received an extension and has been highlighted by the state Department of Health in presentations. HHHRC’s Training Institute provides an increased number of course offerings to service providers, government agencies, and the larger community.
Executive Director Heather Lusk, Medical Director Christina Wang, and other members of HHHRC’s team are also valued resources for policymakers and media on a range of issues. Earlier this year, for example, HHHRC issued a Sequential Intercept Model Report that maps the responses to behavioral health in the criminal legal system.
